Tripura: Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers to sit for hunger strike on August 9
AGARTALA, July 24: Around 300 contractual teachers from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) on Monday threatened to sit for hunger strike on August 9 if they are not made regular.
The teachers from different parts of the state assembled and stirred in front of Education Department at Office Lane in Agartala today since
morning and continued till noon. A delegation among them even submitted a memorandum to SSA director.
"We are agitating for our regularization since many days. The authority didn't pay heed to us. Even our pay scale is much lesser compared to other northeastern states like Assam, Nagaland, Manipur. We have given ultimatum to fulfill our demand by August 8, or else, from the next day, we would sit for hunger strike," an agitator said.
When contacted, joint director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), A. Das said they would forward the demands of the SSA teachers to the Education
Minister. The rest would depend on the government.
"The teachers demanded to make them regular. We will draw the government's attention towards their demands. Their demands would be
examined and the government will take the final decision," Das said.
Sources claimed that another section of the SSA teachers would submit memorandum to Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty regarding their
regularization likely on August 7.
Currently, around 5000 teachers are linked to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in the state.
