Tripura: Photo journalists harassed during post poll violence in state, journalists’ body seeks justice

In an incident that may be termed as part of post poll violence instance, Tripura Photojournalist Association (TPJA) Vice President Ranjan Roy's wife was allegedly attacked by some unidentified miscreants. The incident took place on May 23 when various instances of post poll violence were reported from various parts of the state.


Meanwhile TPJA General Secretary Arindam Dey, in a statement condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. A complaint was also lodged with the west Agartala police station but no action has been taken so far.


It is to be mentioned here that several instances of post poll violence has been reported from isolated parts of the state. Two vehicles, including a Congress leader's car, were set ablaze at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district.

The association also condemned the forcible interference of police in the professional activities of photo-journalists. Reports of harassment of various photo-journalists engaged in discharging their professional duties including coverage of the process of counting of Loksabha poll ballots also came to light on May 23. The association demanded for a drastic remedial action against such incidents.
