Tripura |” Not interested to contest in LS elections; prime goal is to oppose CAB” , says Royal Scion Debbarma

Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Birajit Sinha on Monday after a meeting with TPCC office bearers informed that the name of Royal Scion and National Secretary of Congress Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has been recommended by TPCC as the candidate for the East Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming general elections.

However, Sinha made it clear that the final call will be taken only by the party high command and its candidate.

Sinha said, "We have recommended the name of Maharaj Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma as the candidate for the East Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming general elections but whether he will contest or not it is completely upto him and the the party high command."

While speaking to TNT- The Northeast Today, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma made it clear that he is not in the race of contesting the upcoming general elections.

Debbarma said, "I have spoked with Birajit Sinha and made it clear that I am not interested to contest in the Lok Sabha elections. My prime goal at the moment is to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 (CAB) and I don't want to dilute my cause".

It may be mentioned that Pradyot has been vocal in voiving his opposition against the CAB while actively participating in political activities and social protests for demanding NRC in Tripura. He also took part in a series of protest rallies against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 (CAB).

Recently, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had also questioned intentions of Debbarma behind his protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 (CAB).

Debbarma condemned CM Biplab's comments and asserted that if the Congress party supports CAB than he will immediately resign from the party.
