Tripura: Monk accused of assaulting minor girl sent to 14-day police custody

A 61-year old monk was sentenced to 14 days police custody by the Khowai Court on Friday for his alleged involvement in assaulting a 13-year old girl in a public transport vehicle on May 10.

It was reported that the 13 year old minor was travelling with her grandmother from Teliamura to Khowai by a public transport vehicle on May 10th when the incident occurred.

When contacted, a police official of Khowai Police station told TNT -The Northeast Today that the minor victim was allegedly touched inappropriately by one Prafulla Dutta (61), resident of Gouranga Tilla in Khowai and who is also said to be monk.
"The victim, after reaching Khowai Motor Stand, started crying and complained about the incident to the locals, who caught the monk and informed us about the incident. As soon as we have got the information, we rushed to the spot and nabbed the accused. We have registered a case under Section 354 of IPC of POSCO Act, 2012," said the police official.
The accused will again be produced in the court on May 24. The court has also ordered the police to record the statement of the victim under CRPC Section 164.
