Tripura marred by violence ahead of Panchayat Polls

Panchayat Poll-related violence cases have been reported at several places across the state.

Sonamura witnessed political clashes between ruling BJP and opposition Congress supporters on the last day of filling nomination paper for three tier Panchayat election on Monday.

Addressing a press meet here at Congress Bhawan, Senior Congress leader from Sonamura, Bilal Mia accused the ruling BJP "miscreants" of stopping Congress candidates from submitting nomination papers.

"Congress candidates were forced out of the block and SDM offices and were not allowed to submit nomination papers," he alleged.

Countering the Congress, the BJP leader Ratan Das alleged the Congress of instigating violence in various parts of Sonamura. "BJP candidates and leaders are assaulted by Congress supporters," he alleged.

On the other hand, opposition CPM have been alleged of going on the offensive in the whole political battle. It's workers are alleged of assaulting ruling party workers at various places.

In an incident which took place in Dharmanagar, two BJP workers were allegedly beaten by CPM workers. One of the injured BJP workers is a party candidate for the Panchayat Polls.

An FIR was filed by BJP candidate Rabi Ghosh, accusing that he was attacked by one CPM worker Parimal Das with sharp weapons while he was returning home from Jamjuri area last night. When BJP supporter Manik Das came to his rescue, even he allegedly became the target of Parimal Das.

The two injured BJP workers were sent to Gomati hospital by the other party colleagues. Later, Manik Das was referred to GB hospital as his injuries were severe. Rabi Ghosh was released and though injured he submitted his nomination paper.
