Tripura: Govt employee lands in trouble as Police crackdown on drug smuggling continues

As Tripura police continues crackdown against illegal drug smuggling, a government employee has been arrested by Agartala police for his involvement in smuggling of narcotic items.

Police had earlier arrested some police personnel including few employees of the other state government departments for their active involvement in drug smuggling.

Arrested employee of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has been identified as Ranjit Debbarma, husband of fugitive narcotic kingpin Laxmi Debbarma.

Based on circumstantial evidences of his direct involvement in the narcotic racket, police on Wednesday managed to arrest TSECL employee Ranjit Debbarma. He was produced before a local court on Thursday.

On December 25, 2018 last, police had arrested a police officer and two kingpins of Cannabis smuggling in several raids from different parts of the city and seized huge amount of cash from a hideout of smugglers.

But, police have yet been unable to arrest the kingpin of racket Laxmi Debbarma. During the raids, police seized Rs. 10.1 lakh cash from the hideout of infamous woman smuggler Laxmi Debbarma from Abhoynagar area of the city.
