AGARTALA:

Former Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashish Das, who recently defected from the party to join the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), has claimed that the decisions taken by the ruling BJP government are anti-people.

Addressing a press conference on December 16, Das said that privatisation of education is one of the most anti-people decisions the incumbent government ever took.

“Privatisation of education is one of the most anti-people decisions this government has taken,“ Das said, adding that Tripura is following the “Modi government’s path of selling public assets to private players”.

Das stated that he had, through a letter, demanded Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to revoke this education policy but there has been no response from the government on the matter.

“Had there been the privatisation of education when Biplab Deb and Ratan Lal Nath (Education Minister) were studying, they would not have reached this position because of their earlier financial condition. Tripura Education Minister claims that the state will shine in sports as well, following the privatisation of education. Then what about Dipa Karmakar … did she study in a private school?” he asked, adding that students will not be able to prosper in studies in this “cursed” environment.

Das also warned that if the education policy is not rolled back, then the AITC will hold a massive state-wide protest.
