The 11th convocation of Tripura University held yesterday raised many questions at the working of the university as the university's Chief Rector who is also the state Governor went on to say that all is not well in the working of the university.
The 11th Convocation program of Tripura University was held in presence of the Chief Guest of the program, Honorable Vice-President of India, Venkaiah Naidu. PhD Degree holders were given their degrees and UG and PG toppers from 2013-2018 were given medals at the program held at Maharaja Bir Bikram Memorial Auditorium of Tripura University. But in the program while delivering his speech Governor Tathagata Roy,who is also the Chief Rector of the Tripura University in his speech has raised several questions to the University administration and expressed his sheer dissatisfaction about the functioning of the University.
"When I first visited this University after becoming the Governor of Tripura I was very impressed by the infrastructural facilities available in a University situated at such a distant part of the country and I thought all these facilities are utilized to its fullest for the academic endeavor of its students but there has been lots of negative reports in the press about Tripura University though I had been in politics and in public life for quite a long time and therefore know that everything in the press shouldn't be instantly believed but constant Bad Press is not good for the University reputation. Despite that I am the Chief Rector of this University for quite sometime but still I don't know what the Chief Rector is supposed to do", said the Chief Rector of Tripura University.
The Chief Rector of the University also raised questions on the convocation program being held after five years. He said, "The convocation is supposed to be held every year. But this is the only convocation organized by the Tripura University in the last five years is an example which indicates that all is not well in the University. Moreover is it desirable that a scholar has to wait for five long years for his/her PhD degree?
The Governor also mentioned in his speech that, "Today while writing my speech I visited the University website and I was surprised to see that the University website is still showing that Tripura University is a state university despite of it being converted into Central University years ago which is far from real time information".
