GANGTOK:

Visibly annoyed at the performance of many government employees, Chief Minister PS Golay had a few choice words to say at an event held in the capital on April 14 to mark Ambedkar Diwas.

“Employees don’t reach office on time. They are indifferent to their work as salary is transferred to their accounts every month, whether they work. This is causing hardship for the public. From now on govt employees must reach the office by 10.00 am and leave after 4.30 pm. Departmental heads will be held accountable for this,” said Chief Minister Golay.

Reacting strongly to the relaxed performance of government employees he said, “Those who don’t want to work can leave their jobs. If they want to do politics, they can take voluntary retirement or they can be compulsorily retired.”

The CM also informed that there will be only time-bound promotions from now on. Further, he also stated that there will be no officiating promotions any longer.

“No need to queue up asking for promotions,” said Golay.

He also stated that if required, vigilance or enquiry will be used for derelict officers.

The CM was also upset about the sparse attendance at the event.

“Today is a national festival. But here on Ambedkar Jayanti, how many of our government employees are present? They do not consider their duty to come to national festivals like this. It is just another holiday for them,” he said.
