There’s clash of interest between ministers and HNLC, says Congress chief Vincent Pala

Pala blamed the uptick in militant activity to “misrule” and “corruption” by the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, claiming that the fight between NPP and HNLC is “personal” and has nothing to do with the Congress.

SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H Pala on October 15 alleged a “clash of interest” between the ministers and the Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

“Everybody is looting the public. The public is suffering. The underground is looting the public; the ministers are looting the public. So, definitely there will be a clash amongst them – this is a clash of interest,” Pala said.

His statement came in the wake of the HNLC asking the citizens of the state to shun voting for the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in the upcoming bye-elections to Mawphlang, Mawryngkneng and Rajabala as a mark of protest against the alleged killing of its surrendered general secretary Cherish S Thangkhiew.

The rebels also served a one-week ultimatum to the NPP to shut down all its offices in the Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills region.

Pala blamed the uptick in militant activity to “misrule” and “corruption” by the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, claiming that the fight between NPP and HNLC is “personal” and has nothing to do with the Congress.

Pala reiterated that he was critical of the police personnel gunning down Thangkhiew at his home in a no-knock raid in the early hours of August 13.

“I think the reason for killing, and other things, is because corruption is so high in the state. All those experienced people who are interested in their jobs have all been posted somewhere else or dumped somewhere else… wrong people are being put in different positions,” Pala added.
