SHILLONG:

Right to Information (RTI) activist, Arju Dkhar sought the help of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) to ensure that there is a 44 per cent job reservation for Scheduled Tribes in Group C and D posts in the various central government offices in Meghalaya.

He had earlier sought information through the Right to Information Act, 2005 on the eligibility of percentage of reservation for Scheduled Tribes of the state of Meghalaya for recruitment of jobs as per vacancies in the Government of India offices.

Dkhar said that the reply letter dated March 28, 2019, has clearly mentioned that based on the 2001 census Scheduled Tribes of the state of Meghalaya are entitled to a job reservation of 44 per cent for Group C and D post as per vacancies arises with effect from July 5, 2007, in all the government offices, defense establishment, central government PSUs and financial institutions, etc., under the control of Government of India in the state of Meghalaya.

However, Dkhar lamented that unfortunately there has been no action taken to implement the said order.
