Meghalaya: Two members of gang of bike thieves land in police net

TURA | JUNE 22, 2020:

West Garo Hills (WGH) police today arrested two members of a notorious gang of bike thieves from Damal Asim village in the district.

After receiving a tip-off from vigilant persons from the area, a team led by the CI of Tura Sadar Police Station along with the OC of Tura PS, conducted a raid in early morning hours today, June 22. The raid was undertaken in the house of one of the suspects in Damal Asim, who was allegedly involved in cases of motorcycle theft.

The raid, as per sources, was conducted at 3 am this morning.

"The town of Tura had seen many cases of bike theft over the past few weeks and we received information that these (arrested) could be behind the incidents. Upon getting a tip-off, we raided the house and were able to recover 2 stolen bikes along with some fake number plates used by the gang," said the district police chief, Dr. M.G.R Kumar.

The recovery led to the arrest of two persons who are allegedly part of a larger group of criminals.

"The case has been registered and is being investigated. We are trying to nab the other members of the same gang," added Dr. Kumar.

The police further recovered at least 4 country-made pistols from the possession of the arrested accused.
