Meghalaya Power Minister James Sangma, family test negative for COVID-19


SHILLONG | JULY 23, 2020:

Meghalaya Power Minister, James Sangma and his family, on July 23, tested negative for COVID-19 following reports that his driver and gardener had contracted the virus.

The minister clarified on the situation and uploaded the following post on his official Facebook page – "As responsible citizens, my family and I, along with my staff, got ourselves tested for COVID-19 with the Antigen and Truenat Tests today at Tura even though none of us came in contact with any COVID-19 positive patients."

"All of us tested negative although my driver was declared positive in the Antigen test but came out negative in the Truenat Test. To be on the safe side, he has been quarantined in the Corona Care centre at Tura and has also undergone an RT-PCR test for confirmation of his COVID status. We are awaiting the result," the post added.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya has crossed the 500-mark with the state's tally at 534 as of Thursday, July 23.

The state also reported another 19 fresh positive cases, bringing up the total number of active cases to 448.
