Meghalaya: Curfew re-imposed in Shillong city


SHILLONG | March 2, 2020:

The East Khasi Hills district administration on Monday has re-imposed curfew under Section 144 of CrPC in Shillong city in order to prevent law and order deterioration in Meghalaya.

In an order issued from the office of District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, it stated that there are apprehensions of serious deterioration of law and order in Shillong agglomeration and adjoining areas.

Therefore, keeping in view to the volatile situation in the capital city, curfew has been re-imposed in the entire Shillong city from 6pm of March 2 till 6 am of March 3.

The areas include whole of Municipal areas, whole of Cantonment areas, All areas under Mawlai Block including Census Towns, all areas under Mawpat block including Census Towns, Areas under Mylliem Block from Umshyrpi Bridge upto 7th Mile, Upper Shillong, Madanrting, Mawblei, Laitkor, Nongkseh, Umlyngka, Lawsohtun, Mawdiangdiang, Diengiong, Siejiong.

Meanwhile, curfew will also be extended in areas falling under Sadar PS, Lumdiengjri and cantonment beat house.

It may be mentioned that curfew was imposed since Friday night and internet suspended for next 48 hours following clash between KSU members and non-locals in Shella last afternoon.
