Meghalaya: Arrested youth confesses to shooting 24-yr-old man in Lapalang

Days after the arrest of a 27-yr-old man in connection with the Lapalang shooting case in Shillong on September 2, Police informed that no further arrests were made while stating that the arrested youth has confessed to have been the one who shot the 24-yr-0ld man on that fateful night.

"The arrested person has confessed to the police that he was the one who shot one Pynskhemborlang Kharmawlong at Lapalang on the night of September 02. He is presently in judicial custody," East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Davis NR Marak said today.

Oristar Mawnai (27) was arrested on September 4 and police had also seized a weapon from the possession of the accused, a gun allegedly used in the incident.


On September 2, Alexander Mukhim lodged a complaint that at around 10:15 pm, unidentified miscreant shot at his son Pynskhemborlang Kharmawlong (24) at Lapalang under Rynjah police station, Shillong near SBI ATM. An empty cartridge of 9mm pistol was recovered from the area.
When asked how the incident transpired, Marak said that according to the accused's version, two groups of guys were involved in a brawl when the accused took out his gun and opened fire while claiming that it was "self defense".
Police informed that the victim neither belonged to any of the two groups but had gone to intervene and split the two groups when, as fate has it, he was shot.
