SHILLONG:

Public Health Engineering (PHE) minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar on Friday said he would be making a tour to Garo Hills next month.

The minister would also convene a meeting with the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to discuss and find ways to resolve the water scarcity in Tura, said Tongkhar.

During the just concluded autumn session of the state Assembly, the minister had informed that the water distribution network at present is being maintained by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

“We will soon have a discussion with the GHADC to see whether the distribution network should be taken back by the PHE,” he had stated.

Tongkhar had also mentioned that since 1995, there have been talks that it would be better if the distribution network of Tura town comes under the PHE but so far, no decision has been taken on this.
