Health worker assaulted in Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi, FIR lodged 

One health worker, who was on her COVID-19 duty at Umjarasi village in Ri Bhoi, was reportedly assaulted by two people of that village on April 25.

Authorities of the District Medical & Health Officer, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya, on April 26, filed an FIR against the culprits who allegedly assaulted one on-duty Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker.

One health worker, who was on her COVID-19 duty at Umjarasi village in Ri Bhoi, was reportedly assaulted by two people of that village on April 25. 

The Meghalaya ASHA Worker Union had condemned the incident and also submitted their memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District and the District Medical & Health Officer, seeking immediate intervention.

Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi district, RM Kurbah, said that the office of the District Medical & Health Officer had filed on April 26 and, the investigation is on. 

The district administration is shocked to learn of the incident where an on-duty health worker was assaulted by some locals of Umjarasi village, she said.  

“During this time of COVID-19 crisis, people must cooperate and appreciate the tireless efforts of the health workers who are on their 24x7 duty to contain the spread of the disease,"  Kurbah said.

The district chief has also issued an order to all the village heads to take note of such incidents in their respective villages to prevent such incidents in the future.
