SHILLONG:

Secretary of Foreign Trade Chamber of Commerce, Meghalaya (FRCCM), Daniel Khongsit met the Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui requesting to increase the number of trucks per day for export to Bangladesh.

The SDO (Civil) Amlarem has allotted 250 trucks per day for West Jaintia Hills, which is very less and only a handful of exporters could ply their trucks.

Speaking to reporters on July 22, Khongsit said that the government has opened the border trade, but only 250 limestone trucks are allowed and 200 trucks transporting boulder stones are allowed.

He said, “This has been difficult for the traders and exporters.”

Khongsit added the trucks drivers, exporters and managers are asked to get themselves vaccinated or to get RT-PCR test done.

“This has been agreed upon and we have requested to increase the number of trucks to 400-500,” said Khongsit.

Khongsit also said the Home Minister has assured the FRCCM that he will take up the issue with the Health department.
