Don’t want to talk of rift with party; voters know it all: Rebel Congress leader Norbert Marboh
Marboh, along with prominent leaders of the Mawryngkneng Block Congress Committee, deserted the Congress camp after the party ticket went to Highlander Kharmalki, who left the People's Democratic Front (PDF) for Congress recently.
Norbert Marboh, the rebel leader of Congress who is contesting as an independent candidate for the Mawryngkneng bye-poll, has declined to discuss his rift with other Congress leaders in the Mawryngkneng block, maintaining that the voters know better.
“I don’t want to talk about the same thing again and again. The voters know better. I will go ahead with the hope that it’s the people who will make me victorious,” said Marboh, speaking to the press after filing his nomination papers on Friday.
Marboh, along with prominent leaders of the Mawryngkneng Block Congress Committee, deserted the Congress camp after the party ticket went to Highlander Kharmalki, who left the People's Democratic Front (PDF) for the Congress recently.
Marboh also exuded confidence in the voters of the constituency, despite political bigwigs campaigning for other candidates and said that he will continue to follow up on some of the development projects left unfulfilled by late David Nongrum, the previous legislator, who the former termed as a dear friend. Marboh also aims towards transparent governance.
“There are a lot of developmental works that need to be taken up in the constituency. For instance, there are places in the area that don’t have motorable roads and are in dire need of connectivity,” he said.
He also said that his other goal is to open up employment opportunities for the qualified youths in the area but are struggling to get employment. “There are many unemployed youths in the constituency, who are in the verge of losing all hope,” he informed.
The prominent names contesting from the Mawryngkneng bye-poll are Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chairman and Sohryngkham Member of District Council (MDC) Pynïaid Sing Syiem and Congress candidate Highlander Kharmalki, who secured the second place in the 2018 Assembly general election contesting on a PDF ticket.
