As soon as GoI releases funds, we’ll pay teachers, says Rymbui on demands of SSA teachers

Rymbui made no comments on the mass casual leave that the 12,541 teachers said they would take in protest on October 11 and 12 should their demands be ignored.

SHILLONG:

Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday said that the Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association’s demand to release three months of unpaid teachers’ dues cannot be met.

“As and when the government of India releases the funds, we will pay the teachers. State government never held the funds, because we know what the hardship the teachers are undergoing," said Rymbui.

The association had also demanded to merge the 12,541 teachers under the association from the state implementation society to the state education department. Rymbui, however, rejected this possibility “at this juncture”.

Rymbui made no comments on the mass casual leave that the 12,541 teachers said they would take in protest on October 11 and 12 should their demands be ignored.

It may be noted that the association held a protest rally in Shillong to bring attention to their demands on September 14. The opposition party had raised the issue on the last day of the Autumn session as well, but could not discuss the issue, as the minister was absent from the session on that particular day.
