Meghalaya: Week-long Poshan Pakhwada celebrations conclude in West Khasi Hills
The week-long Poshan Pakhwada celebrations concluded at Mawkadiang Anganwadi Center (AWC) in West Khasi Hills (WKH) on Friday.
The Office of the District Programme Officer (ICDS) Project Nongstoin organised the programme under the theme ‘Awareness Programme on Nutrition Rich Plant/Poshan Vatika’.
While addressing the gathering, WKH Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa informed that there were 25 cases of pregnant women who died during delivery and around 245 children below the age of five in the district who succumbed due to lack of proper healthcare and facilities in 2020.
“There is a need for a gap in giving birth and to avoid home delivery so that we can save the lives of both the mother and child,” Lyngwa said.
“Teachers should encourage students to plant vegetables in school gardens so that they can teach their parents to set up a Poshan Vatika (kitchen garden),” he added.
The programme was attended by Anganwadi workers, helpers, ASHAs and SHGs, among others.
