Miss Manipur contest ban lifted

 |

IMPHAL: With as many as 42 civil society organisations coming out with a decree which banned the Miss Manipur contest prior to its scheduled date on  November 12, 2012 because  they found the attires worn by the contestants obscene and indecent, the contest has never been held since.

Come 2016 however, the ban on the pageant is being lifted since the necessary rules and regulations for hosting of the contest has been finally drawn up. The civil society organisations constituted a preparatory committee to draw up necessary rules and regulations for future Miss Manipur contests. The preparatory committee submitted a set of recommendations and the same were deliberated during a joint meeting of PPCM, Kanglamei, CHITUWA, Poirei Leimarol and AMKIL. The meeting agreed to adopt 11 points from the recommendations which would serve a guidelines for holding Miss Manipur contests. The meeting also constituted an advisory committee which must be consulted by all organisers of Miss Manipur contests.

We can now look forward to the young beauties from Manipur to shine on a platform that has seen girls in many other states launch their careers!
