Manipur: Police arrests trio, seizes 10 dog carcasses from them

IMPHAL:

A combined team of narcotics cell and police of Jiribam district bordering Assam arrested three persons on Monday after 10 dog carcasses were seized from them.

The persons, alleged to be dog traders, were intercepted near a petrol pump at Chandrapur along National Highway 37.

According to sources, the trio consisting of Jaujianthuan Guanmei (25), Alanna Gangmei (35) and Crosby Gangmei (26) were travelling in a cruiser bearing registration number AS 11DC 5749 from Jiribam towards Noney district in Manipur.

Police said that they found 10 dead dogs in the Cruiser which the accused individuals had brought from Ramgaizang village in Cachar, Assam for sale in Tamenglong Bazar. As per local reports, one kg of dog meat is sold at Rs 600.

An FIR was registered against them and they have been penalised.

The dead dogs were later buried at the waste dumping site of Jiribam Municipal Council in front of media persons.
