 IMPHAL:

Manipur government on Tuesday approved Chief Minister's COVID-19 Affected Livelihood Support Scheme, under which Rs 5000 will be provided to every identified family whose livelihood has been severely affected by the pandemic.

The scheme, which will be run under the Social Welfare Department, will transfer money in two equal instalments (Rs. 2,500 per instalment) to the bank accounts of one beneficiary per family.

This scheme will also provide welfare measures to children orphaned due to COVID-19.

The government introduced the scheme taking into consideration the economic dislocations which have severely affected the livelihood of a large percentage of the population leading to an inability to maintain a basic minimum standard of living.

"Eligible occupations for the scheme include street vendors, farmers, daily wage workers, construction site workers, public transport drivers, school van drivers, shop assistants, artisans, weavers, performing artists, home-based business, etc," an official statement read.

According to the statement, the scheme will also focus on skill development and entrepreneurship programmes for unemployed youth.
