Manipur: Amid lockdown smuggled foreign cigarettes seized in Kakching


IMPHAL | APRIL 26, 2020:

Amid lockdown, a person was arrested by the police and around 45,500 packets of smuggled foreign cigarettes were seized on Saturday from Kakching district in Manipur.

A team of police acting on a tip-off intercepted a vehicle at Pallel checkpost and seized the cigarettes, smuggled from Myanmar.

However, the consignment has been handed over to the customs department, and necessary action will be taken against the person for defying the lockdown norms.

Manipur government has banned the import of packaged food items from China, Myanmar and Southeast Asian countries which do not comply with the norms of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
