ULFA (I) calls Ex-home secy Pillai ‘ignorant’ about Assam’s history

Insurgent outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) on Saturday hit out on former Union Home Secretary G K Pillai for his statement downplaying the strength of the out while calling Pillai 'ignorant'.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, outfit's assistant publicity secretary Arunodoy Asom said Pillai is "ignorant" about Assam's history and Ulfa (I) 's struggle for sovereign Assam. The outfit said they would continue their "armed struggle" and they did not require any certificate from an "Indian bureaucrat".

Pillai, a former Union home secretary had yesterday said Ulfa (I) led by Paresh Baruah had become outdated.

"G.K Pillai should first get well versed with the history of Assam before issuing such statement," Asom said adding that 'Outdated ULFA' is but a child like statement of G.K Pillai.

Ulfa group led by chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa and general secretary Anup Chetia are in talks with government and are likely to finalise "an agreement" with the government for a solution.

But Paresh Baruah led faction is against talks without discussion on its demand for sovereign Assam. Ulfa was formed in 1979.
