ASSAM POLLS 2021: PM Modi lashes out at Cong for “choking” BTR; slams Ajmal over ‘gamosa disrespect’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the campaign for the third and final phase of the Assam Assembly election for the incumbent BJP-led alliance in Kokrajhar, Assam, on Thursday.
During the campaign, he slammed the Opposition Congress for “neglecting the Bodo heartland, playing the role of a silent spectator when the erstwhile BTAD was in strife and choking the region with bombs and blockades.”
“People of BTR, who love football, have shown the red card to Mahajot, or rather Maha-jhooth (grand lie),” PM Modi said.
The BJP-UPPL-GSP alliance is locking horns with the Mahajot, which has this time tied up with BPF, led by Hagrama Mohilary.
“Congress had allowed land on which namghars and satras existed to be taken away by encroachers, but NDA has freed them from encroachers... NDA has built bridges of love and unity,” he added.
Modi also slammed AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal for “disrespecting the gamosa, a symbol of Assamese pride and tradition, which a viral video had shown.”
Thanking the masses at the rally, Modi said that the people have reposed their faith in the National Democratic Alliance.
He also slammed the Congress’ alliance with BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary, whom he said were responsible for violence in BTR and Kokrajhar.
“This is in stark contrast to the disturbing times during the Congress tenure, when “bomb, bandook (gun) and blockade” had pushed the region to strife and violence,” Modi said.
Praising the leadership of UPPL president Pramod Boro, Modi appealed to the voters for a mandate in favour of the NDA, which, he said, would fast-track the growth momentum achieved in the past five years.
