Assam: "War on drugs" continues in Dibrugarh

In continuation to the war on drugs in Dibrugarh, Lahoal police conducted a search operation in the premises of one Uddit Gohain alias Bhalu and recovered 11.51 grams of suspected heroin.
According to sources, 25 numbers of small plastic containers were recovered concealed under a Santro vehicle bearing registration no AS-01-MC- 7889.
Police have also seized one syringe and a mobile phone from his possession.
“We received inputs from a source and raided his house and recovered suspected contraband. We have taken him under custody for further interrogation,” a police source said.
Talking to TNT-The Northeast Today, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said, “We have registered 15 cases and arrested 28 drug peddlers from different locations of Dibrugarh. So far, we have seized 70 grams of heroin, 690 grams of brown sugar and 60 kg of ganja from Dibrugarh”.
Mishra further said, “Unemployment is another factor of growing cases of drug peddling. Many people returned to their native place last year after the COVID-19 pandemic but were involved in drug peddling to make money”.
