DIBRUGARH:

Charaido police on Wednesday arrested two persons in connection with the sensational “human sacrifice” case that shocked the entire state on August 10. Identified as Anta Munda and Bogadhar Munda, both men have confessed to killing a four-year-old girl as a propitiatory offering to please a Hindu deity.

On Tuesday the police had detained Anta, a worker at the Safrai Tea Estate, and Bogadhar along with seven others after a body of a minor was recovered from Singlo River in Sonari area of the district. Police had suspected a case of “human sacrifice” after recovering items used in puja near the dead body.

Police informed that during intense interrogation on Wednesday Anta confessed that he agreed to sacrifice the youngest of his six daughters on the advice of occultist, Bogadhar, who, in an inebriated state, strangulated the minor in the presence of her father at a graveyard.

"We have arrested the father and the Tantrik for killing the minor, and a court remand has been sought for further investigation. Unfortunately, the child became a victim of superstitious beliefs and occult practices prevalent in the area," Charaideo SP, Sudhakar Singh said after the arrests.
