GUWAHATI:

The Chief Minister Special Vigilance Cell on Tuesday arrested Assam Police DIG Raunak Ali Hazarika in connection with the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

Hazarika was arrested from his residence in Hengrabari, Guwahati, by SP Rosy Kalita after various charges related to possession of disproportionate assets and other irregularities were reported against him.

A notification issued by the Home and Political Affairs Department read that the senior IPS officer had flouted government guidelines on several occasions. ".....The Governor of Assam, in the exercise of powers conferred by the clauses of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, hereby places Hazarika under suspension with immediate effect," the notification stated.

Hazarika, an Assam Police Services cadre from the 1992 batch, was suspended in July for making numerous foreign trips, without any prior permission from the Home Department of Assam Government since joining the APS.
