DIBRUGARH:

A stray leopard was spotted at Jalan Nagar Tea estate in Dibrugarh on June 15.

According to sources, the woman who saw the leopard clicked a photo which went viral on social media.

“Leopards stray around the tea garden area for food. The forest department were informed about the matter,” said a resident of Dibrugarh.

Because of shrinking forest cover, leopards often come in contact with human settlement in search of food.

“In the past few years we have been spotting leopards in the same locality and dogs become prime targets,” said Arijit Dasgupta, a resident of Jalan Nagar area, Dibrugarh.

Speaking to a forest official, “The residents have informed us and we are trying to tranquilize the leopard”.
