Assam cash for job scam: SC quashes petition challenging Gauhati HC; more trouble for former APSC chairman
Guwahati | March 22, 2018
There seems to be more bad news for arrested former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul. The Supreme Court will not interfere with the verdict passed by the Gauhati High Court in connection with the CBI probe into the cash-for jobs scams.
Incidentally, Rakesh Paul, the main accused in the infamous cash-for jobs scam that rocked Assam and led to his subsequent arrest on November 4, 2016, had approached Gauhati High Court seeking relief from any probe by the apex investigating agency. His petition was, however, turned down by the High Court and instead gave the CBI the green signal to investigate the shoddy appointment process.
Paul then moved the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict. His petition, however, was quashed by Supreme Court and instead upheld Gauhati High Court's ruling to allow a CBI investigation.
His bail plea was also turned down by Gauhati High Court on Wednesday.
