Assam bags top honours in fisheries sector among hilly, NE states

Assam has bagged four awards for achievements in the fisheries sector, including the “best state award,” among the hilly states and Northeastern region.
The Union ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying has selected the state for the top honours from the applicants among all the hilly states and Northeastern region of India through a very competitive matrix ranking procedure.
Assam had scored the highest points in terms of performance in the fisheries sector in the past three years.
State fisheries commissioner and secretary, Rakesh Kumar, will receive the award on behalf of the state government at a function in New Delhi on November 21.
The award carries Rs 10 lakh prize money, a certificate, a shawl and a memento.
Besides, the Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing and Processing Federation Ltd (FISHFED) has bagged the “Best Quasi-Government Organisation” award; Nagaon district the best district award while Amal Medhi of Nalbari district has been conferred with the best fish farmer award in the hilly states and northeastern states of India category.
