Arunachal Pradesh | 8 arrested in connection with bank robbery


ITANAGAR | May 7, 2019:

Eight persons have been arrested by Lower Dibang district police for their alleged involvement in an attempt to rob a bank at Roing in Arunachal Pradesh.

A gang of ten robbers armed with gas cutters and firearms on Saturday evening were engaged in gun-battle with the police after they were stopped at a check post. All of them hailed from Assam.

SP Sanjay Kumar Sain said that a former NDFB militant is also among the
arrested persons..

Sain said that during an interrogation, the arrested persons revealed that they were involved in ATM robberies in several parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

He said that the five members with gas-cutters belonging to the group were arrested while they were trying to flee in a car. The remaining five opened fire intercepted near Bomjir river.

During the gun-battle, a bullet hit SP's car, three of the accused were nabbed while two of the members jumped into the river and escaped, he said.

Police had recovered pistols from their possession. He said that all the three carried Chinese-made pistols along with eight live rounds.

Sain said that the interrogation of the eight arrested members of the gang is on and the whereabouts of the two currently absconding with be found out soon.
