ITANAGAR, April 23, 2018: In a tragic incident, two soldiers, lance naik Parsuram K. and sipahi B. Amarnath, died after the truck they were travelling in fell into the Kundil river near Kabang village in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district on Sunday morning.

The truck was carrying 18 jawans, of whom 15 were rescued, while havaldar Selva Kumar is missing. Four soldiers sustained minor injuries. There were two trucks in the army convoy.

The accident site is around 20km from Roing police station. An army source said, "Based on information about the presence of militants in the area, troops of Dao division launched an operation inside Kundil reserve forest. While returning, the incident occurred because of landslide after heavy rainfall in the region. Driver Parsuram and co-driver Amarnath died on the spot."

Lower Dibang Valley superintendent of police Sanjay Kumar Sain said, "A stretch of road caved in pulling the truck into the water. A search and rescue operation has been launched to trace the missing soldier." Sources said the jawans' bodies have been brought to Roing and the vehicle is still in the water. Roing police have requested the NDRF to deploy its team for search and rescue operations.
