BERN:

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on Monday confirmed it would introduce the new format for the Champions League from 2024 as the number of clubs have increased from 32 to 36.

The introduction of the new format comes amid an earlier announcement that 12 major clubs were planning to break away and start a rival Super League.

The UEFA approved the new format after extensive consultation at an executive committee meeting in Switzerland.

The format will see all 36 clubs brought together into one pool instead of the current system of four-team groups.
