Santosh Trophy Zonals: Meghalaya qualify for nationals, occupy top spot in Northeast

Meghalaya progressed into the national round of the Santosh Trophy men's National Football Championship by defeating Arunachal Pradesh 2-0, and finishing at the top of the Group A table on December 2.

The Meghalaya team required only a draw to qualify for the nationals, but sealed the game to occupy the top spot among all the Northeast teams.

Arunachal did not make things easy for the hosts, but they were reduced to ten men in the second session, as Gyamar Tating received his second yellow card in the tournament.

The visitors also conceded a penalty during the close of the match and another goal was scored by Hardy Cliff Nongbri for Meghalaya as the team made it 2-0 to close the match.

Earlier on November 28, Meghalaya trounced Assam 6-2, while Assam and Arunachal shared spoils on Tuesday.
