From North to South and East to West, the name – ‘Shillong Chamber Choir’ echoes through the grand halls and auditorium and their melodious singing touches the hearts of many.
This Shillong based singing group led by Padma Shree awardee Neil Nongkynrih shot to fame after winning the reality show India’s Got Talent (season 2) in October 2010 on Colors TV, part of the Got Talent franchise, where it performed western chorals, as well as choral-style revamps of Hindi film (Bollywood) classics. Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC) is an Indian chamber choir founded in 2001 by Nongkynrih.
The choir participated in the 6th World Choir Games held at Shaoxing China (Shanghai) in July 2010 and was awarded Gold in all three categories – Musica Sacra, Gospel and Popular. The SCC has performed extensively in India and toured Europe, Canada, North America and South East Asia.
The choir also performed for US President Barack Obama when he visited India in 2010. SCC has been featured as a study chapter in the English Syllabus of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) in 2013.
From big halls to small auditorium, the Shillong Chamber Choir has done it all.
Yet again, SCC managed to render a powerful performance on the eve of the Golden Jubilee celebration of St Michaels School at Srijani Durgapur on December 3.
St.Michael’s School, Durgapur (established in 1966) is an English medium co-educational school located in the steel city of Durgapur. It has about 2500 students studying. It is affiliated to the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) board. It is located in the Bidhannagar, Burdwan locality of the city. Classes Nursery to XII.
