New Delhi, June 19: (IPR) For the first time in the history of MGNREGA in the State, the Rural Management and Development Department, Government of Sikkim has been bestowed with 5 National Awards in a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today. Sikkim was the only State in the country to have received awards in 3 categories at the State level, one at the District level and one at the Gram Panchayat level.
The State team headed by Shri. D.R. Nepal, Secretary – RMDD along with Smt. Sarika Pradhan, PD cum Additional Secretary – RMDD, Shri. Jigme Basi, Deputy Secretary – RMDD and Dr. Subash Dhakal, OSD – RMDD received the three awards under State category (i) Transparency and Accountability (ii) Sustainable Livelihood through Convergence (iii) Geo-tagging of assets under Geo-MGNREGA from the Hon’ble Union Minister for RD Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar.
The East District received the National Award in the best performing district Category and the team headed by Shri A. B. Karki, ADC (Dev) – Gangtok, Smt. Roshni Rai, ADC (Dev) – Pakyong along with the district team received the Award. In the GP level category, Maniram Phalidara Gram Panchayat, Namchi Block, South Sikkim received the award for the best performing Gram Panchayat in implementation of MGNREGA. The award was received by Shri Topda Bhutia, Panchayat President and his team.
In addition to the five National Awards, the State RMD Department was also awarded under Rural housing for commendable performance in Registration, Geo-tagging and sanctioning. The unique rural housing scheme of the State Government has been highly appreciated and recognized by the Ministry.
