Imphal, December 5, 2017: Social organizations in Manipur have announced various forms of agitations, including shutdowns and roadblocks to bring to light their grievances to the state government ahead of Christmas.
The Centre’s failure to make the contents of the Framework Agreement (FA) signed with the NSCN(I-M) public is one of the many issues over which these organizations have decided to take up the path of agitation.
Thangmeiband United Club, a conglomerate of civil organisations of the Thangemband area in Imphal West on Thursday has announced a shutdown in areas covering a major chunk of Imphal city on the northern side to press for the details of the Naga ‘Framework Agreement’. The opposition Congress has also been staging protests in various parts of the state.
Peace and Development Coordinating Committee Khundrakpam and Saikul in Imphal East has threatened to block the 40-km Imphal-Saikul road if the state government fails to blacktop the road by December 15.
The committee’s general secretary, Th Hemjit said that the road is in a deplorable condition for many years as a result of which accidents are taking place frequently. He also stated that though the work order for reparing the road has already been issued in May of last year, no work has been done.
Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur (ZB-M) has also threatened to launch a mass movement against the Assam Rifles if the paramilitary force fails to vacate its post from the compound of Kaimai Baptist Church in Tousem of Tamenglong district within three days.
