PM Modi and Rajnath to visit Manipur; Security measures beefed up in state

IMPHAL, March 10, 2018: Security measures have been beefed up ahead of the proposed visit of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union home minister, Rajnath in Manipur. Modi is visiting the state to inaugurate the 105th Indian Science Congress to be held in Imphal on March 16. The Prime Minister is likely to lay the foundation stone for National Sports University in the state among other projects.

Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh would also visit Manipur to attend the first anniversary celebration of BJP-led government in the state which falls on March 15, and inaugurate the integrated check post (ICP) constructed at the Moreh town along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district.

The Union minister will arrive in Imphal along with the BJP president, Amit Shah, to take part in the first anniversary celebration of the BJP led Manipur government organised by the BJP Manipur Pradesh. The inauguration will a part of the anniversary celebration.

Security measures have been beefed up in the Moreh border town in the wake of the Home minister’s visit. The Tengnoupal police on Friday conducted a massive combing operation at the surrounding area of the ICP.

During the operation, the combined team of Moreh police and police commando of the district conducted door to door in nearby village of Siang Veng, Mauriang and Khonophai. The police team has reportedly rounded up 120 persons for verification but there is no report of any arrest.

Tengnoupal SP Dr. S Ibomcha, under whose direct supervision the operation was carried out said the operation was carried out in connection with the proposed visit of the Union minister who will inaugurate the ICP. He further informed that the operation will continue and security measures have also been beefed up at the border area.

Three guns—two double barrel guns and a single barrel gun along with cartridges were recovered during a security operation at Lilong Arapti Maning Leikai, Thoubal district. The guns were found from the possession of one Md. Amalatula as he fails to produce valid documents for possessing the guns. A scooter with no registration was also recovered from him.

Amalatula is a resident of Lilong Chaobok Mairenkhul, Thoubal. He was handed over to Lilong Police with the items seized. During the operation identity of about 270 male and 200 female were verified.

During frisking and checking by state police and Assam Rifles at Leirongthel Lamkhai area one self-style sgt. major of PLA identified as Maibam Ningthem Singh 42, resident of Yairipok Malom Mayai Leikai was apprehended. One IED weighing 5.6 kg was recovered from his instance. He was found involved in the last year Chandel blast, attack at the 18 AR post. On his disclosure another self-style sgt. Major of RPF identified as Khumanthem Amujao, 33, resident of Nongbram Awang Leikai was also apprehended.

In another cordon and search operation conducted at Kairang Muslim Chingya Leikai, Imphal East this afternoon 20 persons were picked up. Among them five were bailout persons, another five did not possess proper land document, and ten others including three female had no proper identification proof.  One among the bailout persons has found as wanted by Heingang police.

Yet in another house to house search operation conducted at Langthabal Kunja Leikai, Imphal West in the morning about 60 to 70 houses were checked and there was no negative issue.
