Petrol bomb attack in Shillong ahead of PM’s visit

Shillong, Dec 12, 2017: Just few days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the state on Dec 16, security threats have already pushed the police into action after  a petrol bomb was hurled near Lumdiengjri PS in Shillong on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, three unknown miscreants came in an unidentified car and carried this attack at around 8:30 pm today.

After throwing the petrol bomb, the trio immediately fled from the scene, police said adding that fortunately, the bomb did not explode.

“No one was injured in the incident” police source said adding that since PM is visiting on Saturday, the incident is taken very seriously by police.

Police said, “we are on high alert and we take this very seriously” adding that investigation is on to catch the culprits.

Meanwhile, police suspects that this attack could be the fall out of the arrest of a member of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) earlier today.

The president of the KSU Umiam circle Steven Kharkrang was on Tuesday arrested for his alleged involvement in a series of attacks linked with railway protests in Ri Bhoi district recently.

Just hours after his arrest, the attack was carried out, police sources informed.
