Over 103 acres of opium plantations destroyed by security forces in Arunachal

Continuing with its campaign to reach out to the masses and make Arunachal Pradesh a completely drug free state, the Security Forces in conjunction with state machinery carried out massive opium-destruction campaign in numerous places of village Lazu, Sanliam, Raho & Longlem, under Lazu circle district Tirap of Arunachal Pradesh from March 9-12. 

Security forces including Arunachal Police personnel under DC and SP Tirap, NCB and local NGOs have been coming down heavily on illegal cultivation of standing Opium.


A total of approximately 103.42 acres standing Opium cultivation in the fields was burned down in the duration of four days.

A public meeting was also held in Lazu circle, where awareness message shared on the ill effects of drug abuse among the teenagers and motivated teenagers to join the Armed Forces, Police services & other Government services and also encouraged them to raise their physical and mental capabilities so as to uplift their rural background.

“This bold step has been viewed positively by the citizens and being appreciated especially by the womenfolk, children and all sections of society including local NGOs and student organizations,” Defence sources informed adding that the main motive behind executing such kind of activity was to curb down the growing of opium and supplying to the main stream so that the future generation is not affected by it.

“Such a campaign will go a long way in eradicating the evils of drug-addiction and drug-trafficking from the Society,” added the source.
