AIZAWL, May 17, 2018: National Dengue Day was observed in different parts of Mizoram on Wednesday where it was highlighted that 825 people have been infected with dengue in the northeastern state since its first case in 2012.
The event was held at the Health Directorate Conference Hall and had the mission director, National Health Mission, Dr Lalrozama as chief guest. Lalrozama stressed on the need to combat dengue on a war footing and stressed the need for awareness.
Six persons were found to be infected with the disease in 2012, seven in 2013, 19 in 2014, 43 in 2015 and 580 in 2016. In 2017, at least 136 people were infected with the disease and 34 people in 2018 from January to Aprilit was stated. However, there have been no recorded deaths so far.
According to officials of the state health department, dengue cases were highest in Aizawl East area at 485, followed by Aizawl West area at 179.
