Dimapur Jan 12,2018: On January 10, the police in Dimapur and Peren registered two murder cases in which the victims were women. The two cases though unrelated, occurred on the same day in two different districts while the suspects detained by the police happened to be the husbands of the two deceased women.
In Dimapur, a 30 year-old man was detained by the police after a 24 year-old woman, said to be his wife, was found dead at their residence in Supply colony on the night of January 10. While the cause of death was still to be ascertained, the police said that the husband – a 30 year-old man was detained. A case of murder under IPC section 302 was registered at the Women Police Station, Dimapur and investigation underway. The police was awaiting the report of the post mortem conducted on January 11.
In another incident in Peren, one man was taken into custody by the police after a woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband on the night of January 10. The incident occurred at Heningkunglwa village under Jalukie Police Station. The man was reportedly in an inebriated state at the time of the incident.
The Peren police said that the deceased woman’s husband was arrested and a case registered at Jalukie PS for investigation. No further detail of the incident was disclosed with the police only stating that “inquest” and post mortem was conducted today.
The Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) condemned the incident. A press note from the ZPO Secretary, Kerang Dumtta, while expressing grief, called upon the law enforcing agency’s to book and take the appropriate action against the accused. It meanwhile also urged all to maintain peace in the area and “let the law take its own course of action.”
