Nagaland: State govt launches mobile app for farmers

DIMAPUR, April 18, 2018: Nagaland Minister for Agriculture and Cooperation, G. Kaito Aye on April 17 officially launched the ‘NagaFarm Doctor,’ an android mobile app for the farmers of the state.

The indigenous app developed by Nagaland State e-Governance Society (NSeGS), according to the information given on Google Play, was put up on the store on March 26.

The app will help local farmers of Nagaland “manage and identify issues such as diseases/pests related to their agriculture produce,” as per the description of the app.

Users of the app can get assistance from “Experts in the Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland” by submitting their queries through the app.

As of now, NagaFarm Doctor has information on 19 assorted vegetables, fruits and grains including rice, maize, tomato, chili, banana, citrus etc, including pictures of diseases and pests.

By looking at the picture, the farmer can identify various diseases and pests infesting a particular crop or plant.

Thereafter, they can either submit or upload their queries including pictures and get assistance from the ‘Experts.’ The app has feature to submit as well as view one’s query separately. The interaction so far is available only in English.

This app has a chain communication feature like WhatsApp and is farmer friendly, a DIPR report from the launching programme, which coincided with the felicitation programme organised by the Department of Agriculture for the Minister at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima for the minister stated.

How to Install NagaFarm Doctor:
1. Go to Google Play and search NagaFarm Doctor
2. Download and install the app.
3. Once installed, user has to enter a phone number to generate “One Time Password” (OTP).
4. The app will be activated once the OTP is entered.
