Nagaland: Police bust infamous SIM-card racket in Dimapur

DIMAPUR: According to sources, it is reported that the Dimapur Police busted a highly probable SIM card racket and apprehended one Ashish Shah in connection with the racket.

According to a press note release by the Addl. Dy Commissioner of Police/PRO, it stated that  117 pre-activated SIM cards belonging to various service providers were seized from his shop at Hazi Park area but a subsequent raid of his residence leds to further seizure. 1241 SIM cards – both pre-activated and un-activated, 19 stamp seals of retailers, Letter pads of multiple Village Councils, passport size photographs of over 500 different individuals and other incriminating document were recovered from Shah.

The PRO said, “The investigation into the case is being seriously undertaken as the matter concern security issues, fraud and violation of the guidelines set by the Department of Telecom.”

The press note also informed that the roles of the service providers in the racket if found to have a connection, an appropriate action will be initiated.

In the meantime, Dimapur Police have cautioned various bodies authorized to issue residential certificates to exercise inspection while issuing such certificates lest they are liable to be prosecuted in future.
