Dimapur, September 12,2017: The Assam Rifles today, has stated that the NSCN-K was behind the attack on troopers of the para-military unit at ITC (International Trade Centre) Dan, near Pangsha, under Noklak sub-division, Tuensang on September 11.
While ground reports from local officials at the border had stated that a border post of the AR was attacked by suspected NSCN (K) cadres, the AR’s version of the incident did not entirely tally with the reports.
A press release from the PRO, HQ IGAR (North), received September 12, maintained that it was a firefight between NSCN (K) cadres and troops of the 15 AR at Dan on September 11 while it made no mention of the alleged attack on a border post. Stating it occurred around 2:35 pm, the release said, “The firefight lasted for around 10 minutes and was carried out by NSCN (K) cadres from Myanmar side of the Indo-Myanmar border.
The underground cadres fled away into Myanmar on being retaliated by the Assam Rifles troops.” The release said that the attackers used rocket propelled grenades (RPGs), one of which allegedly hit a civilian house and also recovered empty shells of small arms ammunition. It added that one of the troopers, who was reported injured in the gunfight, was evacuated to Rangapahar Military Hospital and that further operations were on in the area.
