The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) manifesto for the ensuing assembly polls was released simultaneously at Zunheboto and Dimapur by Neiphiu Rio, Chief Ministerial candidate of NDPP-BJP alliance and party president Chingwang Konyak respectively on Saturday.
According to the manifesto, the party assures to support the early resolution to the Naga political issue while stating that the party will not come in the way of any political agreement hat brings solution to the Indo-Naga political imbroglio.
Reiterating the party’s stand on this issue, the NDPP mentioned in its manifesto that the unresolved Naga political issue has created hurdles in all fronts, particularly on the economy and all-round development of the state.
“The NDPP assures that the party will not be a mute spectator but will be proactive and will do everything possible to strengthen the ongoing peace process and play the role of active facilitator to bring early solution,” promised the NDPP in its manifesto.
Under bold letters which reads — Change is Coming, the party assures to bring about a stable government, decisive leadership and visionary policies.
Some of the highlights of the party manifesto are good governance and transparency, good roads and better connectivity, improved health care facilities, power reforms and improved supply, anti-VIP culture and austerity drives, meritocracy and fairness, smart villages and smart colonies, promote ‘make in Nagaland’, sports, walking streets of youth culture, organic Nagaland, master plan for uplifting Eastern Nagaland, insurance cover for students studying outside, tourism, modernization of government departments and welfare for journalists and media besides others.
“The manifesto is a solemn commitment of the party to take the state towards a new era of progressive development under a new development that will ensure stability, provides decisive leadership and implement ideas of innovation and creativity in a redrawn economic road-map,” said a release issued by the NDPP on Saturday.
Stating that the party is committed to eradicate corruption, the party assures to frame an anti-corruption law in line with the Lokayukta while stating that Zero-Tolerance Policy will be initiated for fighting corruption and nepotism will be taken up from top down.
Connectivity: Raising concerns over the deplorable condition of the roads in the cities and its suburbs, the NDPP in its manifesto assured to give top-most priority to good quality and safe roads while adding that improvement work on all roads within towns, cities and urban areas will begin within one month.
All district headquarters will be connected through good quality two-lane highways, it mentioned adding that traffic congestion in urban areas will be streamlined by constructing overpasses and bypasses.
The party also assured to enhance air connectivity from Dimapur with more flights and airlines adding that regional airline that connects within the region and also internally in the state will be introduced in a Public-Private Partnership Mode with fixed win aircraft and helicopter services.
Anti-VIP Culture: The NDPP claims that its party stands for anti-VIP culture and oppose any action or symbol that promotes VIP culture in the society. It has resolved that no functionary of the party will use any sign of VIP culture including use of designated plates and name plates adding that major urban centres and cities will be under better security surveillance which will pave the way for ministers and others to stop using pilot cars escorts.
ILP and Citizenship: In its manifesto, the NDPP assured to bring about a technology to strictly enforce and implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to ensure that illegal immigrants are not allowed in the state.
Furthermore, it stated that the party will formulate a policy where ILP holders can apply for work permits to encourage local employment and generate revenue while also improve monitoring mechanism of illegal immigrants.
It also added that a Citizen Registry exercise will be undertaken wherein all illegal immigrants will be identified without a registry card.
Sports: The party also assured that a new sports policy will be adopted to ensure that the sports persons get the much needed support (infrastructure and quality human resource). Furthermore, it also intend to promote Nagaland as hub of motor sports with reintroduction of international motor rally adding that a full-fledged Sports Academy and exclusive Police Sports Batallion will be established.
Having listed it all down, the Party maintained that it will ensure that the manifesto is not just a political gimmick thereby assuring to set up a high-powered body that monitors the implementation of the manifesto in a periodical manner.
