At least three wild boars and one bull deer were gunned down and used in preparing community feasts on the occasion of New Year at North East Diltlang village in Champhai district near the Myanmar border, officials from the state environment, forests and climate change said.
The officials said the deputy conservator of forests of the Champhai forest division and his team recently visited the village and launched an investigation into allegations whether the animals were killed and eaten by the villagers.
“We have photographic evidence that the three wild boars were killed with bullets,” an official said.
The case is currently under investigation.
